A cashier in Saddar, a cashier in a Lahore mall and a cashier in an Islamabad café all need the same three things: a bill in seconds, stock that goes down with the sale, and a closing report that matches the drawer. So why would the city matter when you choose a POS? It matters in two places only: tax on services, and who plugs in the printer.
POS software in Karachi
Karachi counters are varied: wholesale shops that also sell retail, pharmacies, marts, bakeries and restaurants, often with branches spread across the city. Two local facts shape the setup. Power and internet cuts are routine, so billing has to carry on offline and sync afterwards. And many shops have regular customers who buy on account, so the counter needs a customer balance as well as a cash sale. Restaurants in Sindh deal with the Sindh Revenue Board for tax on their service. This is the one city where we install in person: POS software in Karachi is set up at your counter, with your printer and scanner connected and your cashiers trained on the spot.
POS software in Lahore
Lahore is a city of outlets and eating places. Fashion and footwear chains need sizes and colours on every item, quick exchanges and returns, and counters that do not slow down on a sale day. Restaurants need tables, takeaway and delivery on one screen, with kitchen tickets printed by station. Chains want each outlet's stock visible from head office, often with an online store drawing on the same stock. For services, the authority is the Punjab Revenue Authority. We set up POS for Lahore businesses online, and plan a visit when a go-live needs one.
POS software in Islamabad and Rawalpindi
The twin cities have plenty of cafés, restaurants and retail shops, and the counter needs are familiar: stock, shift closing, cash and card. The complication is the boundary. A restaurant in Islamabad Capital Territory has its service taxed federally, through FBR; one in Rawalpindi answers to the Punjab Revenue Authority. A restaurant group with one branch on each side should have each branch's tax set up separately, on its adviser's instruction. Islamabad and Rawalpindi counters are set up with us over video.

FBR integration is not a city question
Sales tax on goods is collected by FBR across the country, and so is the requirement for some retailers to connect their POS to FBR. Whether your business is one of them depends on how the tax rules classify it, not on where the shop stands. Our guide to FBR POS integration explains what it changes on the receipt. Confirm your own position with your tax adviser before you buy.
What matters more than the installer's city
- Hours that overlap. A counter is open late and on weekends. Support has to answer when the till is open, not when an office is.
- A named contact. When the printer stops during the dinner rush, the cashier needs a person to message, not a form to fill.
- A written scope. Counters, branches, the hardware you already own, the receipt layout, payment methods, and how many cashiers will be trained.
- Ownership. Your sales and stock data should be yours to export, and the POS should run on standard receipt printers and scanners, so the hardware is not tied to one vendor.
Before buying hardware, tell the vendor what you already have. A standard thermal printer and a USB or Bluetooth scanner will often do.
Installing a POS when the vendor is in another city
Send the hardware list
Photos and model numbers of the computer or tablet, printer and scanner you own.
Load items and prices
From your Excel sheet, with barcodes where you have them.
Connect the devices on a call
Print a test receipt and scan a test item while the vendor watches.
Run a practice shift
A sale, a return, a discount and a closing, done by the cashier who will use it.
Pull the plug
Switch off the internet and keep billing, then check that the sales sync when it returns.
Go live on a quiet day
Not the first of the month and not a sale weekend.
An Operix POS system covers shops and restaurants on the same software. For Cheesy Bite, a pizza restaurant, we built an online ordering website, a staff dashboard and a POS for the counter. If you are a restaurant, read how to choose a restaurant POS in Pakistan first. Then book a demo, at your counter in Karachi or on a call from anywhere else.
Questions people ask
Is POS software different in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad?
The billing, stock and closing are the same. The setup differs in tax on services, which is provincial in Sindh and Punjab and federal in Islamabad, and in how the installation is carried out.
Can a POS be installed remotely in Lahore or Islamabad?
Yes. With the hardware agreed in advance, the printer and scanner are connected on a video call and cashiers are trained on the live system. Operix installs on site only in Karachi.
Does every shop need FBR POS integration?
No. It applies to retailers the tax rules classify as required to integrate, wherever they are in Pakistan. Confirm your status with your tax adviser.
Will the POS keep working during load shedding or an internet cut?
Billing continues when the connection drops and the sales sync when it is back. For power cuts, the counter still needs its own backup supply.
How much does POS software cost in Karachi or Lahore?
It depends on the number of counters, branches and features, not the city. Operix does not publish prices; ask for a written quote.
