Restaurant POS system in Dubai: tables, delivery apps and VAT

A restaurant POS system in Dubai should take dine-in, takeaway and delivery orders on one screen, send each dish to the right kitchen station, record every delivery app as its own sales channel, print VAT bills in AED with your TRN, deduct ingredients by recipe, and close each shift by payment method.

On a Thursday evening a restaurant in Dubai is running four businesses at once. The dining room is full, the takeaway counter has a queue, the delivery tablets keep chiming, and someone is on the phone taking an order for an office nearby. A restaurant POS system earns its place by putting all of that on one screen and one closing report. Here is what to check, in the order the problems usually appear.

One screen for dine-in, takeaway and delivery

Each order type behaves differently. Dine-in needs a table, a waiter and a bill that stays open while dishes are added. Takeaway is paid before it is cooked. Delivery needs an address, a rider and a promised time. The POS should hold all three without the cashier switching programs, and it should report sales by order type, because the margin on each is not the same.

Delivery apps: get the orders into the POS

Many restaurants in the Emirates sell through Talabat, Deliveroo, Noon Food or Careem as well as their own counter. Each platform sends its orders to its own tablet. If those orders never reach the POS, the kitchen works from several screens, stock is not reduced, and the day's sales have to be added up by hand.

There are two ways to close the gap. Some platforms let orders flow into a POS, directly or through an integration service, and what is possible depends on the platform and on your agreement with it. Where that is not available, the cashier keys each app order into the POS under that app's name, which takes seconds if the screen is designed for it. Either way, treat every app as its own sales channel. The platform pays you later, after its commission, and the only way to check that payout is a POS report of what was sold through that app.

Kitchen tickets that reach the right station

Speed is decided in the kitchen, not at the till. Each item should print or display at the station that makes it: grill, fryer, cold section, bar. Notes such as no onion or extra spicy travel with the item. A change or a cancelled dish reaches the kitchen as a new ticket and stays on record with the name of the person who made it. If your kitchen team reads another language more easily than English, ask whether item names on the kitchen ticket can be printed in it.

Tables, split bills and the final bill

For dine-in, watch how a table moves through the evening: opened, added to, moved to another table, split between guests, paid partly by card and partly in cash. Each of these should take a few taps. The printed bill shows the VAT amount and your TRN, in AED. If you add a service charge or any other fee, it appears as its own line. Whether you may charge it, and how it is taxed, is a question for your tax agent. Our guide to UAE VAT in your ERP and POS lists what to check on the invoice.

Recipes, stock and waste

Food cost hides in small quantities. When each menu item has a recipe, selling a burger reduces buns, patties, cheese and packaging, and the system can tell you what should be left in the store. The gap between that figure and the real count is waste, over-portioning or theft, and it stays invisible without recipes. Record waste and staff meals as their own entries, so they do not blur the picture.

Closing the shift

At the end of a shift the POS should list sales by payment method: cash, card, and each delivery app, since app orders are usually paid to the platform and not to your cashier. The cash in the drawer is checked against the cash figure only. Discounts, refunds and cancelled bills are listed with who approved them. When the restaurant grows into purchasing and supplier accounts, daily sales should post into the books without retyping; POS versus ERP explains where that line falls.

  1. Load part of your own menu

A dozen dishes with their modifiers, kitchen stations and prices.

  2. Run a dine-in table

Open it, add a round, move it, split the bill and pay half by card.

  3. Enter a delivery app order

Check that it prints in the kitchen and appears under that app in the report.

  4. Cancel one dish

See what the kitchen receives and what the manager's report shows.

  5. Cut the internet

Take three orders offline and confirm they sync afterwards.

  6. Close the shift

Match cash, card and each app against the closing report.

Where Operix stands

Operix builds POS systems for restaurants in Dubai and the UAE remotely from Karachi, one hour ahead of UAE time, and has no office in the Emirates. Our published restaurant work is in Pakistan: at Cheesy Bite, a pizza restaurant, website orders and counter sales arrive on the same staff dashboard. For delivery platforms, tell us which ones you use and we will check what each allows before anything is promised.

The same checklist for a Pakistani kitchen is in what a restaurant POS should do in Pakistan, and the general UAE points are in our POS system guide for Dubai and the UAE. To see it with your own menu, book a demo.

Questions people ask

What should a restaurant POS system in Dubai do?

Take dine-in, takeaway and delivery orders on one screen, send dishes to the right kitchen station, record each delivery app as its own channel, print VAT bills in AED and close each shift by payment method.

Can delivery app orders go straight into the POS?

Sometimes. It depends on the platform and on what it allows your restaurant to connect. Where a direct link is not available, orders are entered under that app's name, so sales, stock and payouts still match.

Does a restaurant bill in the UAE show VAT?

The bill should show the VAT amount and your TRN, in AED. Ask your tax agent to review a printed bill, including any service charge, before you go live.

Can one POS run a cloud kitchen with several brands?

Yes. Each brand has its own menu and prices while the kitchen, stock and closing report are shared, and sales can be read per brand and per app.

How much does a restaurant POS cost in Dubai?

It depends on the number of terminals, kitchen stations and outlets, the hardware, and integrations with your website or delivery platforms. Operix does not publish prices; ask for a written quote.
